MATH!

This past week we finished up word problems and using our "math key words" to solve. They are journaling so well and using their key words to help them decide if it's an addition or subtraction problem! I caught them working hard while reviewing for their unit 2 test.

Sept. 30 - Oct. 4

The end of the first six weeks is upon us. Friday, October 4th will be when grades are due for this grading period. Please have all corrections turned in my this date. Report cards will be given to parents at parent/teacher conferences on October 11th from 12:30-5. This day will also be an early release to accommodate the conferences. I will be scheduling conferences every 15 minutes. Please arrive on time so we can stay on schedule. If you are not going to be able to make this day you will need to schedule a time during my conference (10:35 - 11:20) for your report card pick up.

This week....

Spelling: Inflectional Endings - words that end in ed, ing, es, s, and er. Please study these words with your students. Lists will go home Monday.

Reading/Writing: We will have our Unit 1 test over personal narratives, punctuation, nouns, and fables on Wednesday. I am positive they will do great and are more than prepared. We will be taking a practice quiz to help review on Monday.

Math: Our Place Value unit is in full swing already. We are busy working with tens and ones. Next week we will move on to hundreds! They are so quick at picking up Math... I'm really proud of them. We will also be comparing/ordering numbers and working with greater than/less than/equal to in the next week.

Social Studies: This month is Hispanic Heritage month. Our class will visit the library on Monday at 9:45 and get a lesson from the Librarian, Mrs. Trevino. During the week we will also be learning about Cesar Chavez and Hispanic celebrations. Thursday and Friday we will discuss the importance of Gonzales in the fight for Texas freedom and get ready for Come & Take It! We will be talking about the cannon and it's significance.

See you all soon at our parent conference meetings. Have a nice, relaxing weekend.

Reading has been a lot of fun for us this six weeks. We have learned about fairy tales, legends, fables and next week we will learn about myths. They are getting really good at comparing using a Venn Diagram too!

AR is going well. Make sure your child continues to read 20 minutes each night. I have been testing them individually this week and we will begin Guided Reading groups shortly. I have already seen progress in some kiddos in this short time.

Next week is exciting because we will finally be doing Science. We will talk about a Scientist is and what they do! We will even make our own Scientist!!!

REMINDERS:

Don't forget to have your child practicing their spelling words each night. Some of them are still not turning in their tic-tac-toe boards on Friday.

Continue to sign their daily binders in the behavior log, reading log and homework log.

Have a GREAT weekend!

Weekly Newsletter

Mrs. Hilbig's Weekly Newsletter

Hello Parents, I hope the classroom newsletter has been getting to you each week. In an effort to "be green" I am going to start posting our classroom newsletter online starting next week.

Hopefully you are finding this information useful. I like for parents to be aware of what their chid is learning in the classroom so the conversations at home can be an extension of the lesson.

Please let me know if there are still some concerns about my expectations with homework.

I have had a chance to visit with many of you this past week on your student's progress. If I have not, I will be calling the rest of your this week to check in and address any questions or concerns and give you a brief update.

Have a great week,
Mrs. Hilbig
