Halfway There!

I hope everyone enjoyed their break! I know I sure enjoyed turning that alarm clock off and sleeping in! I also go to spend a lot of time with family and friends, but I'm ready to get back into our school routine! I've missed the kiddos dearly… I need to see those sweet 7 & 8 year olds!

This week in ELA we will be focusing on Literary Fiction and how we can find clues to see if the text is fiction or non-fiction. We have already studied text features of each; now we will compare them. We are also going to be discussing fact & opinion. Students will be able to distinguish that "The sky is blue" is a fact and "The sky is pretty" is an opinion. Also, this week we will be reviewing prefixes and how they add meaning to a word.

Our spelling focus will be long and short vowels. I will post spelling words tomorrow.

In Math we will finish up two-digit addition and take a test on this concept. We will start 2D/3D shapes on Thursday.

Third six weeks report cards will be ready soon. Remember, we will be having our last conferences for this report card. Look for letters in your child's black take home binder about this meeting.

Please make sure your child is getting their 20 min. (or more!) of reading in each night. This month they are working for a goal of 5 100's in AR to earn their Pizza Hut 'Book-It' certificate. Hopefully they've been enjoying some free pizza!!!

Also, I know some of the students have 'spilled the beans' and told me that their parents aren't looking at their black binders each night (or at all). Please make sure you are signing behavior calendar & reading log. Also, while you're in their binder, glance over their assignments and make sure they have done all their homework!

Let's make this a great semester, just like the last!
Only 9 weeks until Spring Break :)
