January 20-24

***Reminder - NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 20th for the observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We will see your student bright and early on Tuesday morning the 21st to start our week.

Please encourage your child to eat breakfast in the cafeteria in the morning. It is actually REALLY good... I have been eating in there myself! AND, by doing so, they can save you time by not making them breakfast in the morning. If our numbers start slipping, we will have to serve breakfast in the classroom - and NO ONE wants that!

Spelling: "oo" words
wood, took, too, noon, good, root, book, boot, wool, food
BONUS: bloom , shook

Language Arts: We are studying information text, or "how to". This we have read and written a lot of informational text using our sequencing words. We will continue this next with making s'mores, cartoon faces and other fun things!

We will also be reviewing contractions. We have already studied these earlier in the year, so this should just be a review for them. We have also been practicing contractions in our Guided Reading Groups.

Math: We will be finishing up our Geometry unit and having a test on Wednesday. Thursday and Friday I will introduce two-digit subtraction. I have to say, I think this is the hardest concept for 2nd graders in the curriculum and it TAKES a lot of practice and reinforcement with homework. Please, if you are able, practice a few problems each night. We will be doing subtraction with and without regrouping (borrowing).

Science: We are studying weather! We will learn what meteorologists use to measure weather and observe the weather ourselves!

I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Just a few reminders:
Yearbook orders are due January 24th
Beta Club will take flower orders through Feb. 7th
Please sign your students reading log nightly!
